Use Our Research For More Plumbing Business Leads from ChatGPT

With powerhouse technology companies like Microsoft and Apple investing in and partnering with ChatGPT the growth potential heading into 2025 could be quite disruptive. HLM has been studying AI platforms for over a year and their impact on local search. We wanted to identify which data factors contributed to recommendations from Chat GPT for local service companies.

Single Variable Data Analysis Identifies Key Sources To Help Plumbers Gain Recommendations from ChatGPT

HLM started a research project to identify patterns of change and sources that were identified through prompts as contributing factors to recommendations from ChatGPT.

Our data analysis was conducted over several months and included thousands of documented prompts to identify patterns.

We conducted single variable tests of the fifty largest markets in the U.S. to identify what websites ChatGPT would recommend when prompted for something like, "Plumbers in Phoenix," or  "Plumbers in Houston," and then focused on the top three search results.

Once these results were documented, we prompted ChatGPT for the sources they used to determine the recommendations for local plumbing companies.

Which Sources Help Plumbing Companies Gain Visibility on ChatGPT

Through our single variable analysis and hundreds of prompts, we were able to document patterns on ChatGPT for websites and directories that ChatGPT would consistently reference as factors that contributed to their recommendations. 

For example, in Houston, ChatGPT referenced the following sources:

  • This Old House
  • Yellow Pages
  • Three Best Rated.
In the Phoenix market, the Better Business Bureau was cited as a source that influenced the results for what plumbers were recommended.

Throughout the process of analyzing data we were able to document sources that consistently factored into what websites ChatGPT was recommending. 

The top three websites that impacted plumbing results were:

  • BBB 70%
  • Three Best Rated 48%
  • Yelp 43%

We also discovered that dozens of other websites and directories were cited throughout our analysis, which varied by geographical market. Some of the sources were regional in nature or specific to the housing industry.
