Dare Week: Strengthening Remote Connections and Fostering Team Spirit

Every year, HLM celebrates a special tradition that has quickly become a beloved annual event: Dare Week. Now in its third year, this event was conceived by HLM’s Culture Committee and has since become a cornerstone of our company culture. Dare Week epitomizes our commitment to connecting and engaging our remote team.

How it All Started

Three years ago, as HLM navigated the new landscape of remote work, the Culture Committee sought innovative ways to foster a sense of community among team members spread across different locations. Thus, Dare Week was born—a week-long event in June where HLMers participate in a variety of dares designed to bring them out of their usual routines and into shared experiences.

What is Dare Week?

Dare Week is all about adventure, creativity, and connection. The Culture Committee curates a list of approximately 50 different dares that participants can choose from. These dares encourage employees to:

  • Explore the outdoors
  • Attend local events
  • Involve their families in fun activities

Participation is simple and engaging. Throughout the week, team members document their completed dares with photos, sharing their experiences in the HLM Happenings Slack channel. This visual diary not only showcases the diverse ways HLMers embrace the dares but also fosters a lively and interactive online community.

The Competitive Spirit

At the end of Dare Week, the dares are tallied, and the HLMer who has completed the most dares is celebrated with a customized summer basket filled with a variety of goodies. This friendly competition adds an extra layer of excitement and motivation, encouraging everyone to join in the fun.

Building Bonds in a Virtual World

Dare Week has proven to be more than just a series of challenges. It offers our team the chance to:

  • Spend quality time with family and friends
  • Create lasting memories
  • Strengthen our sense of community in a remote work environment
